Puttu

Puttu is a breakfast dish eaten in the South Indian states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and parts of Karnataka, as well as Sri Lanka. Puttu means “portioned” in Tamil and Malayalam. It is made of steamed cylinders of ground rice layered with coconut shavings, sometimes with a sweet or savory filling on the inside.

Step 1

Take a bowl and add roasted rice flour in it and add salt as per the taste and add 3 tablespoons grated coconut in it and mix well.

Step 2

Take 1 cup of water and mix it well by slowly and add water and make sure that there are no big lumps in it and keep it aside for 5-6 minutes and cover the lid.

Step 3

Take the puttu maker and add 2 cups of water in the puttu steamer and keep it at the stove to boil it at the full flame and meanwhile on the other side add salt in 1 tablespoon of coconut powder and mix it well.

Step 4

Put a layer of coconut powder in the puttu maker and after adding the coconut powder add the puttu mixture prepared in step 1 and 2 in it and again add a layer of coconut powder in it and repeat the same process 2 times.

Step 5

Put the puttu steamer on the stove for 5-8 minutes letting the puttu cook on a medium flame.

Step 6

Piping, steamy hot puttu is ready, and serve it with banana, sugar, papad, and some black gram curry and enjoy it.
