Thai Raw Papaya Salad

Green papaya salad, called tam som or tam maak hoong, pronounced is a spicy salad made from shredded unripe papaya. Som Tam is a popular Thai salad featuring green papaya and a spicy chile pepper dressing. The multitude of flavors from this salad explode in your mouth—sweet, tart, crunchy, and a touch of spiciness—the perfect side dish or a light entree.

Step 1

Shred papaya into long shreds using a food processor or a grater.

Step 2

Add the shredded papaya into a bowl. Add chopped Thai bird red chilies, 1-2 green chilies chopped.

Step 3

Add in a few sprigs of chopped coriander leaves, a handful of roasted peanuts. Pound the peanuts and add.

Step 4

Squeeze in 1-2 tablespoons of honey, some salt to taste, and juice of half a lemon.

Step 5

Toss all the ingredients well and Thai papaya salad is ready to serve.
